As the Gateway to the
Glacial Lake, the Britton area’s best kept secret has been our abundant fishing
and excellent hunting. “Roy Lake was rated one of the best 96 places in America
to catch a record bass” according the Field & Stream, March 2004. Walleye,
perch, northern pike and pan fish are also in great abundance. This same area
is also experiencing the greatest number of pheasants, ducks and geese in recent
years. According to the March 2004 Prairie Business magazine, “South Dakota
supports nearly 70 percent of the continental duck population and is situated on
two migratory flyways-the Mississippi and the Central.” “These are migratory
flyways that millions and millions of birds of hundreds of species travel and
stop along their way.” With these flyways this same area is famous for bird
watching and on any given day Bald Eagles are present. Whether hunting, fishing
or simply viewing birds and wildlife there are few places in America to offer these
types of numbers or species.
