AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based volunteer health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.

Meetings:  Third Monday of most months.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Tour of Homes (Christmas on Parade-mid Dec); Relay for Life (Second Friday evening in June).

BRITTON LIONS CLUB

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  To provide services for the poor and needy, with special emphasis on the blind.

Meetings:  First Thursday of each month (Sept-May)

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Fall Festival (pancake feed-Aug.); host the Pictures with Santa (Christmas on Parade-Dec.); coordinate the Farm & Home Show lunch (Mar.); Sponsor the 7th & 8th Grade Girls BB Tourney (Jan.); Sponsor the 7th & 8th Grade Boys BB Tourney (Mar.); Sponsor individual Lions Member for Relay for Life (June); Sponsor Jr. High area music Choral Festival (Mar.); coordinate the Mobile Sight Unit at Fort Sisseton Fest (June); clean 2 miles of highway (3 times a year); and collect used eye glasses for South Dakota School for the blind.

BRITTON SHRINE CLUB

Member of Yeldez Shrine

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  To financially support the Shriners Hospitals for Children which is dedicated to providing free orthopedic medical care and treating burns to children up to 18 years old.

Meetings:  Monthly.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Shrine Circus (Apr., Aberdeen); Shrine Football Game (Fall, Aberdeen); coordinate the recycling of aluminum cans in Britton and Langford; Support the Yeldez Air Patrol, donate to many local organizations and fundraising events; and participate in parades and other community projects.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  This catholic men’s organization was formed to help the church and community.

Meetings:  2nd Wednesday of each month (alternates location with Helca).

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Sponsor the Angel Tree Gifts and deliver food baskets during the holidays; coordinate the Tootsie Roll sales in local businesses (goes to the mentally handicapped and special ed programs); sponsor the Pancake Breakfast for the school’s Florida band trip); donate to and assist the Food Pantry; and do other fundraising projects for the church or the community.

MASONIC LODGE (A.F.&A.M.)

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  It is the world’s oldest and largest men’s Fraternity and its singular purpose is to make good men better.

Meetings:  Monthly except during the summer months.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Buffalo Chili Feed (Christmas on Parade-Dec.); assist with the Community Theatre and the Fall Dinner Theatre (Fall); have hosted a Spring Golf Tournament; fund various children’s projects locally and nationally.

O.E.S. ORDER OF EASTERN STAR

Britton Chapter #65

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  The Order is primarily a benevolent organization which contributes millions of dollars to various worthwhile charities, both locally and nationally.

Meetings:  Second Tuesday of each month except for July & August.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  We serve and host the local Britton Community Theatre in the Fall; help Masons with the cleaning of four miles of highway ditches; help with community activities when asked; and assist Mason’s whenever possible.

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  We are a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunity for higher education.

Meetings:  Twice a month.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  Local scholarship and other education funding for women.

ROYAL NEIGHBORS OF AMERICA (RNA)

Britton Camp 3594

Main purpose or Mission Statement: RNA is an insurance fraternity originally established in 1904 to give women an opportunity to obtain life insurance—each member of the insurance or annuity holder is assigned to a camp. 

Meetings:  Eight times annually.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: We promote community support and financial assistance through matching funds—fund raising projects, and donating time and money to charities, such as Meals on Wheels, Dogs for the Deaf, scholarships for members, library fund, ambulance, etc.

Main purpose or Mission Statement:  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a faith-based membership organization called to improve the quality of life of its members, their families, and their communities by providing unparalleled solutions that focus on financial security, wellness and caring for others.

Meetings:  Monthly.

Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors:  We co-sponsor fundraising and work events with other organizations in the area for the betterment of the community and families.
