SD STATE PARKS IN MARSHALL COUNTY AREA:

FT. SISSETON HISTORIC STATE PARK

The most complete Indian Fort from the Great Lakes to the Rockies. Fort Sisseton was originally established in 1864 and served as an active Army outpost until 1889. A visitor's center is open daily. Fort Sisseton Historical Festival held every year in June. This festival showcases use of one of the top 10 restored military outposts in the U.S. Muzzle loaders rendezvous at the post and compete in such events as clay pigeon shooting, tomahawk throwing contests and a weekend of history and fun. Military drills, draft horse pulls, SD Old Time Fiddlers, square dancing and frontier craftsmanship are other features of this popular festival. Take part in the military costume ball, and enjoy the melodramas, medicine show, children's activities and much more. Camping is available along with teepee and cabin rentals.

Roy Lake State Park

Located 1 mile west of Lake City off Highway 10, Roy Lake offers a natural sandy beach, boat ramps, 102 campsites (88 with electricity), picnic shelters, a resort with cabins, concessions and boat rentals. Anglers will find quality fishing. There are hiking and snow mobile trails, a playground, comfort station, electrical outlets, junior ranger and interpretive programs. First ever adventure campsite features a primitive canoe-in island campsite. Contact the park for reservations and / or information.

SICA HOLLOW STATE PARK

This beautiful wooded area has picnic and camping areas. Several springs in the park provide excellent pure water. Other features of this park include marked hiking, horseback and snowmobile trails. It's a photographer's dream in the fall when leaves turn to their colorful hues. There is a horse stable nearby that rents mounts.
