Main purpose or Mission Statement: To foster community activities for the development of the community as a whole through civic and social events that will help in promoting the area. Meetings: Second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Sponsor the Easter Movie; Community Wide Rummage Sale Day (May); Yard of the Week (Memorial Day-Labor Day); Glow Ball Golf Tournament (late Aug); Craft Show (Third Sunday in Oct); Football Hamburger Night; Snow Queen Festival (first Saturday in Nov); Light Judging Contest (Dec); coordinate parade at the annual Christmas on Parade Festival; Babysitting Clinic (every three years); welcome visits to new community residents, and other fundraising events as scheduled. BAC donates all of the money raised to various community organizations and projects. Contact Person: Vicki Henschel or Molly Andresen BRITTON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCEMain purpose or Mission Statement: The Britton Area Chamber is organized for the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of the City of Britton and its trade area. Meetings: Third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Britton Library Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Chamber Annual Banquet (Jan.); Winter Festival (formerly known as Farm & Home Show, March); Harvest Days (Aug.); Fall Social (Sept. or Oct.); Christmas on Parade (2nd Sat. in Dec); coordinate Britton Bucks program; provide “1st Dollar” plaques to new businesses; assist with “Welcome to Britton” packets with BAC; produce the one-page laminated telephone directory; and many other community duties as the need arises. Contact Person: Steve Smith Main purpose or Mission Statement: Britton Area Foundation is a tax-exempt organization formed to attract and distribute gifts of capital for community betterment. Meetings: Second Tuesday every other month. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Heart of Dakota Awards (October) Contact Person: Connie Steiner or Cheryl Swanson at 448-2271 BRITTON DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION Main purpose or Mission Statement: To seek new business and industry for Britton, help maintain present business and industry, and help make Britton a more attractive location for businesses and individuals. Meetings: Monthly board meetings. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Annual Meeting (mid Jan.); own both Industrial Parks; GOLD program. Contact Person: Tom Farber CONCERNED CITIZENS OF BRITTON (CCOB) Main purpose or Mission Statement: To gain a better working relationship between all organizations and businesses; and to further the progress of Britton and the area through tourism, business development, marketing and community programming. Meetings: Monthly Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: This is a new organization that so far has published this Community Resource Book, gotten a good start on developing a new internet site for Britton and is looking into getting an updated Britton brochure. Contact Person: Dave Andresen or Jamie Rothe HIGHWAY 10 ASSOCIATIONMain purpose or Mission Statement: An informal group organized to promote the communities along Highway 10 from the Minnesota border to the western edge of Marshall County. Meetings: Called as needed. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Coordinate and distribute the Highway 10 Booklet. Contact Person: Dave Daberkow or Harley Deutsch MARSHALL COUNTY FARMERS UNIONMain purpose or Mission Statement: We are a farmers’ organization that supports the family farm and cooperative ventures that benefit the family farm. We use education, legislation and cooperation to reach that goal. Meetings: Annually (Feb or March) and the directors meet quarterly. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Sponsor the government class trip to Pierre (Feb); support youth and adult involvement in the State Convention (Nov) and the National Convention (Mar); sponsor achievement classes and a youth day camp (Safety Camp); sponsor youth to attend district VII summer camp and older youth to attend the state camp held in the Black Hills. Contact Person: Jan Foster MARSHALL REGIONAL RAIL AUTHORITYMain purpose or Mission Statement: To keep the railroad service in our area. Meetings: An annual meeting is held in January. Meetings are called when the need arises. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Address issues as needed. This group was very instrumental in getting the rail service back in the Britton area in 2002. Contact Person: Don Jarrett or Harlan Peterson MARSHALL COUNTY WEED BOARDMain purpose or Mission Statement: Responsible for control of various weeds in Marshall County. Meetings: On demand. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: We have sprayers and spray all county and state roads and township if called upon to do so. Sometimes host weed meetings. Contact Person: Loren Tilberg or Ron Jarrett NORTH MARSHALL FIRE DEPARTMENTMain purpose or Mission Statement: To offer fire protection and prevention in the Fire District, and provide Search & Rescue in Marshall County. Meetings: Second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Projects or events this organization coordinates or sponsors: Pancake breakfast and auction (first Sunday after Labor Day); Fireman’s Ball (around Easter). Contract Person: Brian Beck |
